Answers to your questions:
WHERE DO OUR LEATHERS COME FROM?
Our leathers come from tanneries with ancestral expertise in France, Spain, and Italy.
Our partner tanners contribute to the recycling of waste from food production.
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE YOUR LEATHERS?
The K.Jacques tradition is based on a rigorous selection of leathers.
Before developing the collections, we carry out a series of tests on leather samples (resistance to creasing, rubbing, humidity, etc.). This step allows us to improve the quality of our products.
WHAT IS TANNING?
Tanning is the operation of transforming a skin into leather using tannins, substances of different natures (vegetable, mineral, or combined).
WILL THE LEATHER EVOLVE OVER TIME?
Leather is an organic and noble material that reacts with its environment depending on various factors such as exposure to sunlight, humidity, temperature variations, use, etc.
To extend its lifespan, regular and essential maintenance with appropriate products is necessary.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PU LEATHER AND ODEON LEATHER?
Our timeless "PUL" leather is a full-grain pull-up leather (which has retained its full thickness). It has undergone a deep tanning treatment rich in vegetable oil, giving it both robustness and suppleness. Its color will darken and develop a patina over time.
Our smooth "Odéon" leather is also full-grain leather. It has been surface-dyed for a smooth, silky effect. This treatment will allow the leather to retain its appearance longer over time.
WHY ARE THE FLANGE FINISHES DIFFERENT?
You can see that some of our models can be made with thin straps, called "Baguettes," and others with wider straps, called "Coupé."
Our designer's choice of leather finish takes into account technical constraints, comfort on your feet, the aesthetic appeal of the model, and some are dictated by the nature of the leather itself.
There are several variations in finishes, and our advisors will be happy to assist you with your selection.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN METAL AND METYL LEATHERS?
Our Metal or Lamé leather is more flexible than our Métyl leather. They both have a surface treatment to give them that shiny and luminous appearance. Métyl leather is distinguished by a crumpled textured effect.
However, both materials remain delicate and require the utmost care. Metallic leathers are generally sensitive to rubbing and impacts.
FLEXIBLE OR RIGID? HOW TO CHOOSE MY LEATHER?
We offer different categories of leather, each with its own specific properties. The level of flexibility can therefore vary depending on the material.
As a general rule, we can say that some leathers are supple from their first uses and others will soften with use:
- Soft leathers are: suedes, metallic suedes, printed suedes, lamés (metal), nubucks...
- All other leathers soften with use. Our timeless "PUL" leather is the one that conforms to your foot the fastest.
However, patent leathers retain a certain rigidity over time.
WHAT LEATHERS CAN I CHOOSE FOR LACE-UP SANDALS?
Our laces are up to 2m long and therefore require a very long hide for their cutting.
The choice is therefore possible from the following range:
- Timeless PUL leathers,
- Metallic leathers (silver metal, gold metal, bronze metal and peach metal, champagne metal)
- Smooth leathers (Odéon black).
WHY IS THE COLOR OF NATURAL PU LEATHER DIFFERENT?
The timeless PUL Natural leather's colorimetry may vary from one tanning bath to another, appearing more or less brown/yellow-orange, as the concentration of mineral and vegetable pigments varies from one tanning bath to another.
Note: the timeless PUL Natural leather develops a patina and darkens very quickly when exposed to light.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NUBUCK AND SUEDE LEATHER?
Nubuck leathers are leathers whose outer surface (grain side) of the hide has been finely sanded for a velvety feel. It is a soft leather with a peach skin feel.
Suede leathers are leathers whose inner surface (flesh side) of the hide has been sanded to obtain a very soft and pleasant velvety feel.
ARE THERE NAILS IN MY SOLE, IS THAT NORMAL?
Yes, this is part of our traditional manufacturing techniques.
All the straps of K.Jacques flat sandals with linen thread topstitching are attached under the sole with nails.
The nails should not hurt you in any way because our crocheted technique makes the nail point disappear.
You can see them by zooming in on the product photos.
Don't like the nails? We have developed other nail-free manufacturing techniques.
